I don’t know how many of you Y2Kers are old enough to remember this but it is one of my favorite SNL skits.
The Great Invention of the Day
What makes a great invention? Life saving devices? Forwarding humankind? No, those NEED to be invented. The great inventions are those that come out of unnecessity. Things that do nothing more than make you laugh or that make you a little more lazy. That is why today we will honor big foam hats. What is funnier than an oversize foam cowboy hat? Well, a lot is, but….a lot ISN’T. Thats what makes them so great. As in the words of Burt Reynolds being played by Norm McDonald on Celebrity Jeopardy, “Its a big foam hat, its funny.” That it is my good man, that it is.
