Dove’s “Real” Beauties are FAKE!

May 8, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

A retoucher, Pascal Dangin of New York’s Box Studios, was recently quoted in an article for The New Yorker saying he retouched the photos in Dove’s Campaign for Real Beauty:

“Do you know how much retouching was on that?” he asked. “But it was great to do, a challenge, to keep everyone’s skin and faces showing the mileage but not looking unattractive.”

Dove’s ad agency spokesperson didn’t fess up to knowing about any of it:
“There was no retouching of the women,” she said. “If there was a hair that was up in the air, that might have been the kind of retouching that was done. But until I know what he actually worked on, I can’t comment on it.”

Will we hear a public outcry for this? Will the real ”real” women speak out against Dove for misleading them? I mean, we already feel bad that we don’t have Gisele Bunchen’s butt or Scarlett Johansen’s boobs. But what happens when Dove, who’s supposed to be featuring our fellow sisters in flab, makes the ad’s subjects look even better than us normal people? I predict “hit fitting the shan”

I on the other hand am just making two notes to self:
#1-no cookies after lunch today
#2 For important photos, hire Mr. Dangin.
