Band of the Week Month

That’s right, Sam Sparro.  His self titled full-length debut dropped in the UK on Tuesday, which means I got my copy in the mail on Wednesday direct from Jolly Ole England.  I can’t say enough about this album so far, its just catchy from begining to end without a miss.  There isn’t a U.S. release date yet (although he is from Los Angeles).  Hopefully he’ll top the charts and they’ll send him back across the pond the way they did Gnarls Barkley…

Epic Music Videos and an MP3 download after the break…

Band of the Week #1 - Ghostland Observatory

Ghostland Observatory

As this is the first “Band of the Week” posting we’ll have a short introduction.  Since I wouldn’t say that my musical knowledge runs deep enough to necesitate its own blog I’m going to try and keep you the reader abreast of whats running through my ears each week.  Maybe you’ll hate it, maybe you’ll love it, either way you can always wait until the next week to either be surprised or dissapointed again.  When I can I’ll include videos and audio to sample (not much point in a music post if you can’t listen), and hopefully a short biography on the band.

B.o.t.W. #1 - Ghostland Observatory

Hailing from Austin, Texas, this weeks band is comprised of only two members who describe their sound as “A robot making love to a tree”.  I don’t know if I’d go quite that far, but it is definately some catchy electro-pop with lead vocals from human dance machine Aaron Behrens (see video below) and synth/drums from the often caped Thomas Ross Turner (those of you who know me should have by now experienced my affection for capes in some way by now).

Ghostland Observatory recently released their third album on the Trashy Moped label “Robotique Majestique” in early March.  The album has been described by the band as a more conjoined and flowing effort than the previous two.  I would say its definately worth a listen.  My advice would be to pick up their second album “Paparazzi Lightning” (try “Sad Sad City” below) and go from there…
