The Uno’s custom hoops aren’t front and rear like a motorcycle’s, but side by side, rising and falling independently over the road as it leans. 

The inventor is 19-year-old Ben J. Poss Gulak, who in 2006 took at 3 week trip with his family to China and saw all the pollution and decided he wanted to help do something about it.  He put college plans on hold and set out to create a non-polluting vehicle that had style.

At Toronto’s National Motorcycle Show in March, he showed the Uno off to Russell Mitchell of Exile Cycles, a custom bike builder and a veteran of Speed Channel’s “Build or Bust” series, who jumped aboard and cruised with no trouble.

He will go to Shanghai to talk with a company about developing the bike and possibly putting it into production. At the moment, he is fine tuning the Uno.

Starting Mid-August, US airways will be the first major airline to charge for refreshments on the plane.  It will be $2 for each beverage, soft drinks, juices, coffee and bottled water.  They are also increasing the cost of alcoholic beverages to $7.

US airways is calling this the “pay-for-what-you-use” business model.

Café Modern

Located at the Tadao Ando-designed Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the restaurant’s patio overlooks a calming reflecting pool, itself an artwork. The architect wouldn’t allow any cooling mechanisms on the patio such as fans or misters, but it’s certainly beautiful. Executive chef Dena Peterson offers a succinct menu of salads, sandwiches and New American entrees for lunch and brunch.

Dakota’s

The glamorous, windowed elevator shaft that carries guests to the restaurant’s subterranean location provides a glimpse of the patio framed by a waterfall. It’s one of the most romantic, clandestine settings in the city. Steaks are Dakota’s strong suit, as are crab cakes and a Valrhona chocolate cake. Fans (and the waterfall) help keep things cool.

Dream Cafe

Tables on the sunken patio at the restaurant’s Uptown location nestle up to a grassy field where kids can have the run of the lawn, and this is definitely a family destination on weekends. The patio has fans. Breakfast at Dream Cafe is ambrosial: Try the huevos rancheros and the ricotta-enriched Cloud Cakes.

Fearing’s in the Ritz-Carlton Dallas

If you’re feeling both ritzy and outdoorsy, you can start the evening with a drink at the open-air Live Oak Bar and then sup on the Ocaso patio, laid out among blue-tiled fountains and precisely shorn topiary. It’s a particularly lovely spot for solo dining. No fans or misters. This is, of course, the culinary domain of Dean Fearing and his plucky menu of upscale Southwestern-New American-Asian offerings.

Joe T. Garcia’s

Joe T.’s is the granddaddy of all patios in the Dallas-Fort Worth area: The “fiesta gardens” of this Fort Worth institution have grown over the years to now accommodate more than 1,000 customers. There are fans under some pavilions. The cuisine is all Tex-Mex, all the time, though customers tend to linger over the righteous margaritas.

Kalachandji’s Restaurant and Palace

An open courtyard with covered booths and open-air tables circling a gnarled tree and a modest fountain make this one of the most peaceful spots in Dallas for an alfresco meal. There are fans above the booths. The restaurant is in a Hare Krishna temple on an East Dallas street lined with charming prairie-style houses. The cuisine is buffet-style vegetarian, which includes Indian sweets for dessert.

Mansion Restaurant

Part of the recent renovation of the Mansion Restaurant at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek included lowering a wall around the property, so the patio now opens to gorgeous, pastoral views. No cooling devices yet; the company is currently making decisions in that department. Sit on comfortable furniture and watch the sky slowly dim as you savor John Tesar’s five- star New American cuisine and sommelier Michael Flynn’s astute wine pairings.

Ozona Grill and Bar <!––>

The sprawling, multilevel complex of dining rooms and bars includes a patio so shaded with leaves you feel as if you’re dining in an enormous treehouse. Although serene for dates, Ozona’s atmosphere ultimately is that of a college bar, with a young, sometimes brash waitstaff. The patio has fans. The easygoing Tex-Mex-themed menu includes a much-praised chicken-fried steak.

The Chinese crested breed, Gus won the World’s ugliest dog contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Northern California.

Gus has three legs, one eye and no hair, except for a white tuft on the top of his head.

Gus’ owner won $500 and will be flown to New York to appear on “CBS This Morning.” The event will be aired on the Animal Planet network in October.

A seven year old boy in the Czech republic was found chained in his home, where his family kept him and abused him in a very perverse ways.

The Child was kept as a prisoner in the cellar and the family would eat parts of him.  When found the child had been skinned.  According to reports the entire family that was a part of the cannibalistic cult would eat the child too.

The child and his younger brother were kept in cages and handcuffed, burnt, whipped and tortured.

The family had a monitor installed so that they could watch the abuse from the kitchen but the images were picked up by a neighbor who used an identical system to monitor a newborn baby. Thank goodness for great neighbors doing the right thing.

What the hell was this family thinking.  The mom of the child said she was brainwashed and ”Terrible things have happened. I realize it and can’t understand how I could have allowed it.”

Apparently this was all organized by text messaging, really a cult organized by texting that is the most disgusting thing I have ever heard.

The Hula Hoop, once the hippest toy around turns 50 years old today.  It is estimated that Wham-O Inc. sold over 100 million hula hoops at $1.98 a piece, which means that is more then one hula hoop for every two americans at the time, WOW!

The Hula Hoop might make a come back soon thanks to Nintendo WII and its new WII fit where you can spin a virtual hoop for physical fitness.

It has been reported by US magazine that 17 year-old  Jamie Lynn has given birth to a baby girl, Maddie Briann.

At the UK premiere of “Sex and the City”, Sarah Jessica Parker shows up with a hat that is hideous.  What the hell was her stylist thinking, can you imagine sitting behind her at the premiere trying to look around that thing.  The dress is great but the hat just totally makes her outfit an ”F”.

Zack Braff posted on his MySpace page that Scrubs will be returning and moving from NBC to ABC.

Dear friends,

Many of you have been understandably confused by the Fairy Tale episode of Scrubs serving as the series finale. It was not. I was not allowed to say it until today, but Scrubs will be moving to ABC for its final season. We are currently filming the 8th and final season. The true finale of the show will air on ABC in the fall. NBC merely promoted the Fairy Tale episode as the finale, as it was the last episode they owned.

Also, several of you were very confused by the fact that Dr. Kelso and Laverne were still working at the hospital in the Fairy Tale episode. Because of the writer’s strike, the last remaining episodes for NBC were aired out of order. This is why Dr. Kelso was still chief of medicine. That was not Laverne however, for those of you who have been following closely; it was a new nurse “Shirley” who no one thinks looks anything like Laverne except for JD.

Hope this clears some things up.
