GreensBurg Premier - Discovery Channel Special

June 16, 2008 by Christian

Turns out on the night of May, 2007 Three tornado’s touched down in Kansas, then combined and created a deadly F5 tornado.  This beast went right through a farm town called Greensburg and literally destroyed everything in its path, and when I say destroyed, I mean literally sucked up and spit out EVERYTHING in it’s path.  Once the storm passed, the town came out of their basements and wrecked homes to see that the tornado had taken everything and tossed the town around like a washing machine.

Imagine coming out of your home and looking at all your neighbors and friends and realizing that none of you have a home anymore.  Every possession it just about destroyed.  Well, that was case here in Greensburg, and Discovery Channel went and Checked out the process of how this town is going to recover.

FEMA stepped in when this tragedy took place and built temporary trailer homes for the victims.  Now, the town has everyone housed but no school, no stores, and no idea what to do next.  The mayor of the city, in my opinion, make the right decision  and steps down as mayor.  He was a good Mayor and Grew up in the town and knew it very well, but now this town is going to go through many changes and needs someone that will be best man to get the city through it.  His decision probably saved the town, and should be thanked for it repeatedly.

Re-building an entire city will take a lot of time, and the city makes the best decision ever, and totally goes green.  This will mean that the re-building will take Much, much longer to plan and do right.  Watching the show you see the frustration of citizens and local residents who just have to sit and wait while they lose money and can’t start on the re-building process until a plan sets in.  The visionaries can see in their head the importance of going green, but have a hard time explaining to the locals what it really means.  Understandable the frustration of all the residents, but making this entire city Green will bring in so many people, companies, and basically be the San Francisco of the MidWest.

I will be watching this series closely and post about it accordinally, but I am very excited to see the new technologies and alternative power and fuel ideas the city comes up with.
